Day 20: Organization

 

Organization is the key to survival both in your job search and when you have a job. As mentioned in the notepad section, taking note of important meetings, interviews, and steps taken throughout you job process is critical to keep your information organized. With various copies of your resume and cover letters, it is crucial to organize your job search materials so you spend more time looking for jobs than looking for your materials.

 

One important way to stay organized is to have a to-do list. Though we already covered the need for this item in a job search, it’s worth noting again. Itemize all of your items you need to do in your job hunt to apply for specific job or prepare yourself for an interview. Once you go through the entire list, implement another to-do list for your next application or upcoming interview. Nailing down this process allows you to have that much more time to focus on acing that next interview or attending networking events to land an interview.

 

A new way to stay organized is to use a bullet journal. They are similar to a to-do list, but with a twist! You can customize this journal to your liking to better track your daily and monthly tasks. It’s something to definitely check out if you’re in need of some more organization.

 

Evernote is another fantastic service that simplifies your note taking by organizing it all in one convenient location.  With this tool, you can take notes and segment them to your liking. For instance, if you are applying for a sales position with Integrity Staffing and wanted to include company research and the job requirements, you could create an entire folder dedicated to that job and put all relevant notes in that folder. Additionally, you can easily export any notes to anyone at anytime. It’s a great organizational tool worth exploring!

  In the job search process the details matter. When ten people interview for a job, you must go the extra mile to standout in a positive way. A traditional way of leaving a good impression is following up each interview with a thank you. Whether it’s a physical letter or email, a thank you matter. Yes, you are trying to get a job, but you’re also interacting with people. Show your appreciation through a thank you note.   Thanking the recruiter or employer for his or her time and consideration goes a long way. Make sure to reference any key points from your interview.
